The Museo Reina Sofía organises a workshop around French-Argentinian artist Alejandra Riera alongside artists Caroline Déodat, Andreas-Maria Fohr and Antonio Menchen, setting out from notions which form the backbone of her and the participating artists’ work: communal art-making, the fragility of materials and themes and film as an open process.

The activity gets under way with a collective tour, between artists and participants, around the exhibition < Garden of Mixtures: Attempts to Make Place, 1995 -… > (2016), before moving on to the Sabatini Auditorium with a talk around and screening of < … – ohpéra – muet – … > (2016), a film-documentary that interrogates the restoration of the Columbus statue in Buenos Aires and evokes the role of painter Gustave Courbet in the Partis Commune and made by Riera with the Brazilian theatre company UEINZZ, comprising different psychiatric patients, therapists, philosophers, actresses and other occasional participants.

The lecture will be followed by one of the works in the show, 2x tent, an itinerant public cinema without walls that will be taken down and reconstructed in the Sabatini Building Garden by all participants. The tour culminates in screenings held in this outdoor mobile structure and presentations by Caroline Deódat and Andreas-Maria Fohr on cinema as a form of experience.
