Collective project of political and cultural reflections on sound and listening.

by Ekaterina Bazhenova-Yamasaki, 2024

The Resonant Frequencies of Buildings is a collective project of political and cultural reflections on sound and listening, which I curated and published.

Typically, sound plays a secondary role in underscoring visual elements, but in this project, we challenge that notion. The ear is not merely an aid to the eye, nor does sound simply provide images with a sense of realism they lack when presented in silence.

This book brings together artists, writers, and musicians to explore conventional sound structures and the wide range of sensations and emotions they evoke. Most of the contributors are fellow artists and close friends.

The seventeen contributors offered their work, which has been transformed into various formats and media—poetry, drawings, collages, photography, and texts, including short essays and theses.
